Founded in 1837, Miwa Shuzo is located in Ogaki City, known as the City of Water, in Gifu Prefecture.  The brewery's most famous brand, Shirakawago resulted from a request from the Mayor of Shirakawa Village, a UNESCO Heritage site, to produce doburoku sake, a traditional heavily viscous cloudy sake in the mid-seventies for use in the Historic Shirakawago Village doburoku festival.  The modern version of the Shirakawago brand, Shirakawago Sasanigori Junmai Ginjyo was born out of a collaboration between Miwa Shuzo and WOJ to produce a mellower and lighter-bodied nigori sake (than the traditional doburoku) with a wider palatability.  

天保8年の創業以来、大垣藩御用達の蔵でもあった三輪酒造は、水の都と呼ばれる地で地元に愛される酒造りを目指しています。そして今から40年以上前に、当時の岐阜県白川村村長より、白川郷どぶろく祭りの振る舞い酒をイメージしたどぶろくのようなにごり酒の製造を求められ完成した白川郷純米にごり酒は、今では三輪酒造の人気銘柄として国内外の日本酒愛好家から根強い支持を得ています。 ～酒は濁れど想いに一点の曇りなし～ 醸す酒の９割がにごり酒という異彩を放つ酒蔵として、お客様に常に新鮮な驚きと感動を提供すべく、にごり酒、どぶろくに情熱を注いでいます。
